The Stylus has always been our go-to for aggressive, technical riding. Burly enough to get rowdy, responsive enough to make it fun. For this latest evolution, we wanted to push the platform even further into the modern hardtail frontier.

The new Stylus now features mullet wheel compatibility, 29" up front, 27.5" in the back, to blend rollover confidence with snappy handling. Whether you're threading a tight chute, roosting a corner, or charging into the unknown, the mixed wheel setup keeps things fast and playful without compromising control.

We also reinforced the headtube with additional gusseting, giving it even more strength to handle bigger forks and harsher lines. Because let’s face it: if you're riding a Stylus, you’re probably not picking the easy way down.

☛ Our heavy duty 4130 custom drawn tubeset and CNC dropouts and yoke
☛ MX wheel size
☛ Handbuilt in Taiwan
☛ Designed around 160mm fork, with options to play with travel and wheel size.

If you ordered a full bike, you'll have everything you need to get rolling right away, prior to some minimal setup.
Frames come with a hanger, chain stay protector and rear axle.

Stylus

The Stylus is a true hardtail bruiser.

Versatile, confident, and ready to take on everything from long trail missions to technical, high-impact lines.

Built around a 160mm fork with a slack front end and now running a mullet wheel setup (29" front, 27.5" rear), it offers the perfect balance of rollover speed and agility. A new headtube gusset adds extra strength where it counts, while the 12mm Boost 148 through-axle rear end and Chromag’s signature yokel chainstay provide generous tire clearance.

With a compact seattube for low standover and room to slam your post, the Stylus stays out of the way when you need to move around on rough terrain or through DJ lines. It climbs with purpose, descends with authority, and takes a beating without flinching. The Stylus is built for riders who treat the mountain like a playground.

4130

Almost all Chromag frames are made from quality 4130 chromoly steel tubing. Chromoly is an abbreviation for chromium-molybdenum indicating the materials that the steel is alloyed with.

The added chromium helps increase the steel's hardenability and also provide some corrosion resistance.
The molybdenum helps to increase the toughness of the steel.

It has a high tensile strength but is also malleable which is what gives our frames their notorious ride quality and feel. Chromoly is often used when more strength is required than that of mild carbon steel.

It falls under the AISI (American Iron & Steel Institute) 41XX designations which is where the “41” comes from. The “30” indicates it contains approximately 0.30% carbon by weight.

Chromoly is much stronger than traditional 1020 steel and it has a higher strength to weight ratio and high tensile strength, which means we can use less material and achieve a product that can withstand the abuse that riders love to throw at it.

The Stylus is our heavy hitting hardtail.

key features

E.D. COATED

Our ED (Electrophoretic Deposition) coating is applied by fully submerging the frame in a liquid, to which, an electric field is applied (a bit like anodising). Not only does this completely envelop the frame inside and out, but it provides an incredibly even layer of protection.

This gives our frames great corrosion protection as the inside of all tubes are also coated.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

We've never tried to hide the fact some of our products are made in Taiwan, in fact, we're proud of it.

Our Taiwanese partners are incredibly skilled and some of the best in the business.

As you would expect, these products are held to the same strict standards that we're renowned for.

CHAINSTAY PROTECTOR

All Chromags now ship with our injection moulded chain stay protector to help keep the paint fresh and the noise low. These have an adhesive applied, but also slots for zip ties if they come unstuck years down the line, or if you want to apply it to another frame.

Designed for life

Yes, steel might be a little heavier than its
more flashy contemporaries, but these bikes are built to last.  We use high grade 4130 Chromoly steel which is durable and contributes to a great feel as well.  Steel tubes are known for their compliance and lend a calm, vibration-absorbent feeling to the ride of the frame.

assembly & care

Whether you get your bike in a box, or roll it out the front door here at Chromag HQ, you can rest assured your bike has been pored over with pride, and built with the utmost attention to detail by one of our extremely talented mechanics.

Threads are chased, seat tubes are reamed, head tubes are honed, fits are checked and checked again, all to make sure when you get your bike, everything is absolutely dialed.

UDH

The UDH is designed to optimize shift performance across all bikes as well as create a sensible solution for replacing damaged hangers. The UDH has been widely adopted throughout the cycling industry with hundreds of models already featuring it.

the choice for riders who favour rough terrain and need a bike that will stand up to plenty of abuse.

geometry

Built around our most robust tube set the Stylus begs for abuse and airborne antics. The low slung geometry keeps it composed in the hectic situations it encourages.

Sizing

If you're between sizes, it's a good idea to try to ride them both, either by hopping on a demo or stealing from a close friend. If that isn't an option, examine reach, stack and ETT numbers on your current bike and compare. If in any doubt, please get in touch and we'd be happy to chat about it with you.

FAQ's

You can run the Stylus in several different configurations, however a 29" rear wheel will not fit in the Stylus.

We know some riders will want to run the Stylus with a longer fork and/or as a 27.5 only. For those looking to go 27.5 and conserve geo, a Pinner Machine Shop lower headset cup is a great way to achieve this.

Click here to view geo charts for common configurations.

A 2.5” Maxxis fits with appropriate room around it.

Yes! There are ISCG mounts on the Stylus MX.

All our frames can work with +/-10mm of fork travel. To generalise the geometry change is around a 0.5° slacker head tube and seat tube angle for every 10mm added.

We have created full geo charts for some common configurations, check it out here.

All geared hardtails run a standard boost chain line (52mm)

With a 52mm chainline (SRAM boost standard), the Stylus MX can fit up to a 34-tooth chainring.

For context, most of us here are running a 30t, with a 10/52 cassette.

There is a serial number on the back of your fork arch, adding this to Rockshox Trailhead app along with your weight gives a good baseline setting.

It does, however the specific blend of steel we use (CR-MO) has very good corrosion resistant properties.

The Stylus also has our ED coating inside and out which further helps protect it from the elements.

Nothing of note on this frame. Please let us know if you have tried to fit a more obscure component and faced issues.

Greasing your seat post prevents this issue, we strongly recommend re-greasing every 6 months at a minimum.

Not much! Here's what you need to do if we shipped your bike to you:

• Inflate tires to desired pressure. (Sealant is already installed)
• Install brake rotors, tightening bolts to 6.2Nm.
• Attach derailleur to frame, tightening to 9Nm making sure that the B-tension tab rests properly against the derailleur hanger stop.
• Grease headset bearings, install fork and handlebar, positioning the headset spacers above or below the stem according to rider fit.
• Align handlebar stem, preload headset and tighten stem pinch bolts to 8Nm.
• Install wheels, tighten axles.
• Install chain with quick link.
• Grease pedal threads and install pedals using pedal washers supplied.
• Adjust brakes, shifters, saddle position and height for personal preference.
• Set up suspension.
• Bed-in brakes. (Roll down a gentle gradient dragging one brake at a time. Avoid locking them up.)
• Go ride!

Note: If you had to Google "Nm", or you don't know which way to install your rotors, you should probably get a qualified mechanic to build your bike!

Watch the build video here.

Here's what's been done:

• Chain length adjusted.
• Gears adjusted.
• Brakes set up and bled.
• Handlebar tightened to 6Nm.
• Grips tight on handlebar.
• Crankset tight, bottom bracket tight/adjusted.
• Saddle and seatpost tight.
• Seatpost greased *make sure to re-grease every 6 months!
• Tire sealant installed.
• Cassette tight.

Customers praised this steel frame as an "ultimate plow machine" that "rides almost same as full suspension." The geometry featuring high BB, long reach, and short chainstay earned acclaim. Reviewers loved its versatility, calling it "fun, capable & all-around awesome" for jumping, climbing, and descending. Minor concern about rear tire clearance.

Plow machine

Built it as full 27,5 bike with 29" 160 lyrik and +6mm riser crown race, this bike rips so darn good that i even forgot about my full suspension bike after just 2 rides, this thing is a killer, rides almost same as full suspension bike, it really is ultimate plow machine.

Got the Stylus MX for a recent build. So fun, capable & all-around awesome. Just as at home jumping as it is climbing & descending. So stoked to have finally gotten my hands on one!

Absolute Blast

like a dirt jumper and an enduro rig had a baby. I love this thing, it somehow blurs the lines of stable and playful without ruining the climb. I honestly prefer it to my dirt jumper at the local park and you can point it down pretty much anything with confidence. Definitely built for folks who like to "play" on the trails. Built it up and smashed it around kingdom trails in Vermont for about a week and had an absolute blast, went from flow trails, to the enduro world cup line, and then over to some dirt jumps and at the end of the day just sessioning some jibb spots. My only critique is probably the rear tire clearance. I would love to fit a nice fat 3" tire back there and run it kinda lower to soak up some of the hits, but otherwise I'm happy as a clam.

Amazing Frame

Beautiful frame that I gave my husband for Christmas. He was so excited that he spent all of Boxing Day building it up and keeps saying, “now that’s a nice looking bike!”

The best bike somehow gets better!

This thing is a riot. Even more confidence inspiring and stable than last gen yet just as playful. Simply the best!

What is the maximum rotor size you can run on the rear?

- Chromag Crew:

Thanks for yourt question. Max rotor size for a Stylus MX is 200mm. CM

Looking through geo chart for mullet configurations. For 27.5/27.5 setups, are you guys recommending running a 27.5 fork (w pinner cup) or are all of those options for a 29" fork?

- Chromag Crew:

Yup they are all for 29" forks. The Pinner cup is for using a 29" fork but with a 27.5" front wheel. The extra geo charts show the axle to crown distance of the forks in question. If you'd like to know geo for a specific fork not listed, fire an email to info@chromagbikes.com and we'll see what we can do!

WHY!?! You update the whole bike but give it seat post numbers from 2015! On the XL, a 495 seat tube that only has 315 of insertion depth? WHY?!? You know droppers are up around 250mm drop nowadays, so why keep the seat tube so ridiculously long and with a kink so far above the bb. Your max post insertion is 180mm above the bb. What an incredible waste of space. I was hoping so badly that you would get better here and I could get this next gen Stylus

- Chromag Crew:

Hi Sam,
thanks for your concern.
The seat tube is a straight tube on the Stylus MX, there is no bend.
The port is as low as it can go on the tube while maintaining clean cable routing for the dropper and distance between the port weld and the weld to BB. The cable exit of the port is 80mm above the BB for all sizes.

We say in our geo chart that max post insertion is based on a Rockshox Reverb, this can have a long Connectormajig on the bottom, taking up height. As such if they are running an XL frame as quoted you could slam a 240mm oneup post in it.

Once we have moved through reverbs and are spec'ing oneups we will update this number on the geo sheets for all frames.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
JM
